4:7:8 - NATURAL TRANQUILIZER
︎︎︎ Creative Coding (HTML, CSS, NODE.JS on VisualStudioCode)
︎︎︎ Physical Computing (Arduino, Mini Thermal Printer, PulseSensor)
Overview:
Tackling the concept of the
importance of emotional design through AI/automation/new technology, I created 4:7:8, an immersive audio-visual experience that is designed to put the user in a better
state of mind when dealing with anxiety or feeling overwhelmed.
A visually guided meditative
program that combines calm imagery with a breathing technique, 4:7:8, developed
by Dr. Andrew Weil. It is proven to reduce anxiety, stress and lowers heart
rates. It connects the mind and the body, as you slow your breathing and focus
on each breath, your parasympathetic nervous system becomes engaged.
It helps your body become flooded with a wave of relaxation by shifting your focus on worries to a calmer state of mind. It has also known as a natural tranquilizer.
The interactive aspect is done by using a heart monitor that the user must be connected to during the session. It allows them to see the changes in their rate. After the session is done, a poem about mindfulness is printed for them to take. The program calculates the rates from start to end, therefore the length of the poem is determined by the intensity, the higher the rate, the longer poem.
